The Georgian Settle

This is a good example of a truly delightful and original Georgian Oak Three panel 'Settle'.

This close up shows the Mahogany Cross banding, (the darker inlay being Mahogany).


The sculpted arms are typical of the period and so date this settle to Circa 1880.

The Cabriole style leg gracefully tapers to end with a Georgian Pad foot.

This is a strong and sturdy Bench that seats 3 people easily.






The Uprights between each panel are called the Muntins








The upholstered seat can be used either way up.

This one shown still retains its original under-seat webbing...! Amazing!


It measures: W4'6" x H3'6" x D2' approx.

Victorian Loo Table c1860-1880

Victorian Mahogany folding Loo table. 

A Loo table is a table model from the 18th & 19th centuries, originally designed for the card game loo, (a game also known as Lanterloo)





This typical loo table has an oval top & hinged mechanism fitted to an ornate pedestal base, enabling the table to be easily stored when not in use. How practical were the Victorians?

So practical...

Elegant...

Victorian practicality also included castors for easy movement with many featuring an ornate carved and turned pedestal base.

A Mahogany 'Balloon Back' Parlour Chair

The Victorian Parlour showcased the homeowner’s possessions and so, was a place where guests were entertained.

Victorian Mahogany Parlour Chairs

Spending on elegance and ornamentation was 'de-rigueur' of the day during Queen Victoria's reign, (1837-1901).

Interiors were noted for their orderliness with houses divided into rooms - with public and private spaces clearly divided.

The Parlour in Victorian times was the most important room in the house - Reflecting the interests and aspirations of its owners...!

The word Parlour can be traced back to the 16th Century.
